My “Aha” Moment — The Power of Staying Connected

My “Aha” Moment — The Power of Staying ConnectedAfter decades in real estate, I had seen just about every new marketing pitch imaginable. Shiny programs. Lead funnels. Promises of “instant business.” You name it — someone tried to sell it.One day, a marketer approached me excited about yet another new system. Before I could even consider it, Mark McInnes looked at me and said something that stopped me in my tracks. He told me he was always impressed by how many past clients I had helped — families I had worked so hard for — people who already trusted me and appreciated what I brought to the table. Then he asked me one simple question:“Are you staying in touch with them?”I paused. And I had to admit…Not as much as I should have.I’ve always poured myself into my clients while we’re in the middle of a transaction. I eat, sleep, and breathe every detail. I care deeply about the outcome. But once the closing is done, life moves forward — for them and for me. Time passes. Connections fade. And even if clients remember how hard I worked…They may not remember my name years later.Mark gave me a piece of advice that changed everything:“Sit down. Gather every phone number and email you can find. And make it a point to reach out.Call them. Email them.Better yet — send a handwritten note.”So I did.I went through records. Old emails. Files. Conversations.I built my list — not of “leads,” but of people.People whose lives I had walked through.People who had trusted me with one of their biggest decisions. And then I reached out.Just to say hello. To check in.To see how life had unfolded. Not to sell anything.Just to reconnect. That year, something beautiful happened. My phone started ringing.Past clients began referring friends. And children. And parents. And eventually — entire generations within families.People told others,“Call Rain — she’ll take care of you.”And it wasn’t marketing magic. It was relationships. That was my aha moment.I realized that success in real estate isn’t built on the newest platform or the latest trick. It grows from the quiet, consistent care you give to people long after the ink dries.Today, many of my clients have become long-term friends.I’ve watched families grow.Kids I once helped move into their first homes now call me when they’re ready for the next chapter. And every bit of that loyalty traces back to one piece of advice:Stay in touch with the people who already know, like and trust you.It sounds simple. But it changed everything.Thank you Mark!!! Inspired by this months Active Rain Challenge “Who Are You & Your ‘Aha’ Moment – Self-discovery and Personal Growth”Rain Silverhawk
